Mid-Week Encouragement May 8th, 2024
Many times, I speak with people who may be struggling with various issues connected with either their past or some trauma that caused them to view themselves, as well as the world around them, in a skewed light. Low self-esteem, sometimes to the point of hating themselves, because their value was obtained from a source other than God and His word.
I saw this quote from C. S. Lewis and thought of how many times in life we can lose sight of who we are because of the things happening around us and in our lives. It's essential for us to remember that God sees us differently than the world and the way we see ourselves.
God is outside of time (which is a creation of His) and sees us in our entirety. He knew us before we were formed in the womb (nearly 100 verses speak of this in scripture), and he knows all the decisions we will ever make, and He loved us and died for us while we were sinners.
When we belong to the Lord, He promises to place His Spirit within us and begin a work in us, which we call sanctification. Many times, we can only see the things we don't like about ourselves or what others may point out, not realizing that inside of us, a process of conversion is taking place (sanctification).
When we realize that we are a "work in progress," and God values us so much as to die for us while we were sinners against Him, and then work on us through the Holy Spirit, our worth, our value to God, is greater than any other, and when we place our hope in Him, our worth (and happiness, peace, etc.) come from Him alone, and He will never forsake us.
