Mid-Week Encouragement June 6th 2024

This morning was the monthly Minister's Prayer for the Iosco Ministerial Association. Ministers from three churches showed up. There are currently 53 Christian churches in Iosco County. The lack of unity is sad, and I believe it boils down to denominational theology.

I know what you're thinking. Of course he says it's denominational theology. He is from a non-denominational church! Just because we do not 100% align with a single "denomination" does not really mean much, considering all of the denominations at one point or another in history didn't even agree with themselves. I believe the most essential alignment is the basic ecumenical theology of the word. In a world filled with thousands of various beliefs, all claiming to be true Christianity, it is difficult to find unity when there is so much to disagree about.

The early church faced the same problem. This is why the Apostles' Creed was developed in the first century: to measure fundamental beliefs and determine whether someone was truly of the faith or not. If we find unity with various denominations, it will be found among the foundational beliefs. We should have unity as long as the denominational theology does not directly oppose the foundational beliefs or scripture.

One thing the Iosco Ministerial Association has been working on for over 30 years now.

It has been my prayer for a while that all the churches see that there is truly only one church, the Body of Christ, and only one membership that matters, whether or not you belong to Christ Jesus. Until we lay aside differences and pick up the foundational belief taught by Jesus, our division continues to weaken the Body of Christ in this world when we need unity most.
