Mid-Week Encouragement February 21st, 2023

Mid-Week Encouragement by Rev. Bruce A. Shields

I was thinking earlier today about how we are all on different levels of understanding and belief. Humans often seek what feels good rather than what may be true. Our faith and belief are no different. In fact, the scripture warns us about the end times and last days when humans will seek the tickling of ears rather than sound doctrine.

In an age where personal beliefs, feelings, and emotions, our desires, trump biology, science, and reality, we are closer now than ever to the mass exodus from the truth of God's word.

Those who examine themselves honestly and truly desire to seek the Lord and Truth will accept that they must change. Change needs us to submit to the Lord and Truth, and He promises that if we do this, he will change us.

Philippians 1:3-6 "I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, 4 always offering prayer with joy in my every prayer for you all, 5 because of your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now. 6 For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus."

We are also told in the word that this process is an ongoing, never-ending process that takes place until we stand before the Lord Himself. We must surrender to the Holy Spirit, and allow Christ to do this work, or else we risk, not only spiritual immaturity but in that state the danger of falling to false doctrines.

Ephesians 4:11-16 "And He Himself gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the full knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ, 14 so that we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming, 15 but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, that is Christ, 16 from whom the whole body, being joined and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the properly measured working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love."
